Our first time at Hokkaido Ramen House, the place is very cozy, nice and clean. Our server is was very friendly and professional. Ordered 2 appetizer kani salad and the fried calamari (the kids love it). Ordered Tonkatsu ramen, pork kutsu on rice and no. 15

Hokkaido Ramen House is a homerun of delicious Japanese cuisine! The staff was very polite,courteous, and attentive. The ramen was phenomenal. I felt like I was back in Shibuya with the authentic flavors. The black garlic ramen is something everyone should try. The dessert was much more flavorful than expected, in a good way! If you're in the Barrinton area and want great ramen, this is the spot.

Spicy beef Ramen is really spicy, tantanmen was garliqui and rich in egg flavor. Jalapeño peppers were delicious, a tiny sweet note, and the crab ragoons are a must. The texture of the shell is unique.

Not sure if this is a “chain” resto as Hokkaido is used quite a few times at many locations but logo has subtle differences. Nonetheless, stumbled onto this wonderful shop that has fairly priced apps and entrees while giving ample portions. Started with the spicy kani crab salad that was cool, creamy with slight touch of heat and the unmistakable flavor of surimi (imitation crab). Contrasting textures including the crunch of the tempura crumble made this a favorite. Also, the fried shrimp shumai was very good. Usually shumai is steamed so this was a different spin on a classic Chinese dim-sum dish. However the star here was the black garlic tonkatsu ramen. The blackened garlic added a more intense garlic note but it wasn’t as tart as the regular garlic. And the tonkatsu was nicely seared with crisp edges, a departure from softer braised pork. I prefer it seared in this method. The broth was fantastic with rich umami texture which was elevated with the gooey egg. Their standard garlic tonkatsu ramen was also fantastic, but a lighter and less intense version of the black garlic. Both are worth ordering!!! Will definitely be revisiting this place in the future!!

Five stars — easily one of the best ramen spots I’ve been to This place absolutely nails ramen on every level: flavor, balance, portion size, and consistency. You can tell right away that real thought goes into the broth and toppings — nothing here tastes rushed or generic. I ordered the Spicy Miso Ramen, and it was phenomenal. The broth is rich and layered, with a perfect balance between pork depth and lighter chicken notes. The garlic and soybean base adds serious umami without overpowering the bowl. The spice is not just “heat for the sake of heat” — it’s flavorful, warming, and complex. The spicy chili paste and miso chili powder give it a slow build that keeps you coming back for another bite. The toppings were generous and thoughtfully done. The grilled pork was tender, smoky, and clearly high quality — not dry or rubbery like you get at lesser ramen spots. The sweet corn added a great contrast to the savory broth, the fried onions gave a nice crunch, and the bamboo shoots and bean sprouts kept everything fresh and balanced.
